We have rebuilt everything from the ground up to be lightning-fast, beautifully responsive on mobile devices, and invitingly smooth to navigate.
A Seamless Booking Experience
One of the biggest improvements you'll notice is our new direct booking system. We've integrated directly with Smoobu, which means you can now check availability, select your dates, and secure your booking in seconds. By booking directly through our own site, we are able to pass our platform savings directly on to you, ensuring you always receive the absolute best price for your stay.
We've also completely overhauled our Guest Guide and Explore section, giving you a curated, interactive map of our favorite local pubs, historical sites, and hidden gems around Northumberland. Whether you're planning a hike along Hadrian's Wall or just looking for the best Sunday roast in Hexham, you can now plan your perfect itinerary before you even arrive.
For the technically minded...
Our new architecture is completely "headless." We built a bespoke, static React application using Next.js, which completely separates the website's frontend from any heavy databases. The entire site is pre-compiled and edge-hosted globally on Cloudflare Pages.
What does this mean? It means the website is highly secure, loads in milliseconds no matter where you are in the world, and uses a flat-file Markdown system (like the one generating this very blog post!) that makes content updates effortless. We use Stripe Connect for secure payment processing. It’s a developer-grade stack that ensures our digital infrastructure is just as robust as our 19th-century stone walls!
