Passivhaus Certification

When completed in 2024, Warksburn Old Church became the first Certified Passivhaus home in the world to be created by converting a former church. Formal certification by the Passive House Institute was handed over ‘live on stage’ on 19 September 2024, when Alan presented the project to the Passivhaus Trust annual conference, held at the University of Oxford. The photo shows Alan receiving the certificate from Passivhaus Trust board member Marion Baeli and Kit Knowles of Ecospheric, the Passivhaus specialist consultancy who advised the project.
A major factor enabling the building to meet the exceptionally demanding Passivhaus standard was the astounding airtightness level of 0.19 Air Changes per Hour (ACH) achieved through the painstaking attention to detail of lead contractor David Reed and the wider project team.
